Fear

The blinding and unforgiving power of fear

Fear is debilitating. It leads you off your path by making you afraid of its end. We turn down great opportunities because we are afraid that either it is too good to be true or because we are afraid of the unknown. When we were cavemen it was beneficial because it helped to lead us away from certain dangers that would end us as individuals, but now it is obsolete and it has a horrible effect on us. Fear of war lead us to make "preemptive moves" when no moves were being planed. Often when we really are in deadly situations, it leads us to make them worse, such as when we are in quicksand, or we are drowning. Caution however is beneficial now, and it always will be. Fear of the unknown is the strongest kind of fear, and as a result it often causes the most death and destruction.

"We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light." ~ Plato
